I was flicking through my web album earlier and I realised that some of my photos are quite good. People have said they are but it’s hard to believe about your own work.
I know I lack technical skill. I can see a shot in the middle of nothing and I can set it up. I’ve even done that remotely by yelling ‘now!’ at friends taking the photos I’ve ordered them to take. *g* And I can also muck around with picasa tools to create new pictures out of snatches of originals or to make images better. I think I’d like to start learning about the more technical aspects.

First young padawan I shall teach you how to hold an umbrella over the precious camera in such a way as to leave both hands free.
The important things are these:
1) always take your own so that a friend does not lend you their pink one
2) if you do have to borrow a pink one ensure your friend does not have their own camera with them.

Those are awesome! ^_^

Danke π
Trouble is, I look at them and see the flaws. I know how they were created and I know how much easier it would have been to do if I’d had more technical knowledge.
I may have to work on this. π

I have terrible news.
Having more technical knowledge only allows you to see more flaws π¦

But I will know how to correct some of the flaws. There are things I was doing that I had no knowledge of and it was messing up my photos. Once I knew about it I could correct it and my photos were much better.

Well, if anything it gives you something to focus on! I’d be interested to see what you consider the ‘flaws’ in the above pictures though, what you may see as flaws i may well see as a brilliant addition to a picture! π

Those are ones I like and even they are not perfect. Look at the woman. See the loss of focus on her hand. Now I know what that image came from and I know there’s bog all I could have done technically to factor that out. But there are others that I would love if I’d got slightly different.
I’m going to spend Friday pm with the camera on the south bank I think. See if I can get some nice people shots.

I actually LOVE the loss of focus on the ladies hand… It draws you to her eyes more, i think π
I must say, i think i quite love the tree as well – the knots and branches are just brilliant π

I love weird-looking trees. I’ve added another of my favourites at the bottom. π

Oooh, thats lovely! I love the building in the background too π

Always always always focus on the eyes. Sharp eyes, low aperture, punch the subject out of the crowd by throwing the foreground and background out of focus and “soft framing” them. It’s brilliant technique and what I would have planned to do on that shot.
I must let you play with the new F1.8 85mm lens and see what you can do with that, it’s ideal for that sort of shot.

Which reminds me – I must dig out that huge panorama I stitched together of Chinese new year, don’t think I ever showed it to too you.
I think you got the better shot though by spotting the red of the lanterns against the grey day.
